Cottonwood Students attend Presidential Inauguration

Class ActivitiesSix students from the Cottonwood campus recently returned from Washington D.C. after attending the Presidential Inauguration and visiting some of the sights in our nations capital.  Amilya Bodenberg, Nate Plapp, Laurel Plapp, Jennifer Applegate, David Lung and Sebastian Meyjes along with students from Desert Christian School in Tucson stood in the cold for seven hours and witnessed the swearing in of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States.  Through the diligent efforts of Diane Lung, the students were able to raise the money through fund-raising activities, tax credits and donations.  All of this was accomplished in a two month period of time.  The trip made a strong impression on our students.  There is an article in the Independent and Bugle.  Please check both of these articles for interviews and pictures.

On January 13, the students at the Cottonwood campus were treated to a special musical concert presented by  the Canadian Saxophone Duo Doug and Wendy Pullen.  Doug and Wendy were introduced to the audience by 5th grader Angel Vera.  They have presented over 3000 concerts across Canada,The United States, Europe and Asia.  The program took them on a musical voyage from the 1600’s to modern day.  They learned about the saxophone and ACCIDENT-PRONE inventor Adolph Sax. The k-8th grade students learned about composers and how they write music. Doug and Wendy were accompanied in a special performance by our 5th grade teacher Ms. Dehnert, Mrs. Bermudez, Joseph Sullivan, Samantha Summerford, Angel Vera and Colby Carter.  We are looking forward to next years performance for both campuses.
